13. Goosebumps

Ok, so in at number 13 is Goosebumps. I was a big fan of the book series as a kid and I used to stay up late at night with a torch and read until I was too tired to carry on. And the TV show was pretty good too. The tongue in cheek nature towards horror was always really funny to me, making going back and watching it just as much fun now, as it was back then.

The first episode of the first series is a good starting point, strangely enough. It centres on a young girl who is under the impression that their local librarian isn’t all that they seem.

It’s currently available for streaming on the US Netflix, if anyone is interested in watching it.

12. 30 Days of Night

In at number 12 is 30 Days of Night. The overall premise of this film is great; centered in Anchorage, Alaska where for 30 days once a year the town receives no sunlight. So naturally, this is a pretty good hunting ground for vampires.

The cinematography in this film is fantastic. Some of the angles used to show what’s going on leave a very lasting impression. A certain scene in a dark police station, where the prison cell is the only source of light, are among the best.

This film is definitely worth a watch, it puts the bite back into vampires in a big way.

Unfortunately, there’s no streaming service that currently carries it, but it’s a fairly old film now and you can probably pick it up quite cheap online.
