FERDINAND BERTHOUD
Chronomètre FB 2RE
Among the most impressive of all 2020 debuts , this watch from Ferdinand Berthoud presents the time with the help of a technical tour-deforce : through a constant-force mechanism by fusee-and-chain transmission with a one-second remontoire .
The dial displays deadbeat seconds , like marine chronometers or regulator clocks , while the stunning back reveals a barrel and the fusee chain that is satin-brushed , as are all 790 individual chain components . All the movement parts are hand-chamfered and bevelled with traditional tools .
The manual-wind movement comprises twenty-six bridges held by ten steel pillars , surrounding the mechanical parts . This construction is characteristic of Ferdinand Berthoud marine chronometers from the 18th century . Of course , the watch his officially certified by the COSC .
The dial is made of primarily two elements : the domed periphery with the graduated scale and the central lower flat medallion . Both are made of grand feu enamel , which requires numerous firings in a special kiln at a temperature of 800 ° C .
This unusual , beautifully realized piece ( measuring 44mm by 14.3mm ) is made in two ten-piece limited editions ( white and rose gold ).
Price : CHF 210,000 .
