SPRING DEBUTS

W ith Watches and Wonders 2023 in the rear-view mirror , our trip into the remainder of the year is a promising one indeed . The exhibiting watchmakers in Geneva showed a strong selection of new pieces , with many thoughtfully enhancing known styles with more than simple color updates or new strap options .

At IWC , Cartier and Jaeger-LeCoultre , for example , complete collections received solid tributes and revisions . IWC revisited its storied Ingenieur collection with Ingenieur Automatic 40 , a collection of three steel-cased models sporting an all-new , appropriately technical grid-pattern dial . But perhaps more intriguing is the collection ’ s new titanium addition that , finally , aligns Ingenieur with its peers at the high end of the tool-watch spectrum .
Jaeger-LeCoultre showed beautiful Reverso collection tributes and debuts , while among Cartier ’ s whopping eighty-seven debuts , the precious metal Tank Normal collection and several nicely detailed Santos-Dumont debuts ( especially one with a vintage airplane perched on its micro-rotor ) were highlights .
Rolex sought to reach a more technical crowd with its own titanium debut , the newest version of its Oyster Perpetual Yacht- Master 42 , which now sports a lightweight RLX titanium case and bracelet . Do Yacht-Master buyers want a lightweight option ? I ’ m betting they do .
Parmigiani Fleurier , which last year wowed the crowds with its Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante , this year follows up with the impressive Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante , another premiere jumping-hand watch that is certainly one of my favorite debuts during the show . Where that earlier model allowed for a handbased display of GMT time , the new watch allows the user to check elapsed minutes on-demand via a second minute hand hidden directly under the primary minute hand .
These debuts represent only a fraction of the impressive watches we saw in Geneva last month . We ’ ll show you more in our Summer issue , but in the meantime please check out our online channels for more details about these – and many more – 2023 debuts .
Regards ,
