SEMPER FORTIS Just a few weeks prior to unveiling the new Diver Chronometer, Ulysse Nardin also launched the Marine Torpilleur Military Semper Fortis, a special version of its Marine Torpilleur nautical watch. That watch also features the caliber UN-118 automatic movement now found in the new Diver Chronometer models. The new watch pays tribute to the story of Ulysse Nardin’s early 20th century partnership supplying marine deck chronometers to the U.S. Navy. Based on early Ulysse Nardin chronometer designs, this modern iteration echoes those original watches with a polished 44mm steel case, large crown, Roman numerals, and a large-sized small seconds dial. The number “24” is written in red on the power reserve indicator, a direct reference to the warning system on the original marine chronometers that let sailors know that only 24 hours of power reserve remained. The open case back is laser-engraved with “US Limited Edition” and “Semper Fortis.” A limited edition of 173 pieces (for the 173 years since Ulysse Nardin founded the company), its price is $7,900. 78 | INTERNATIONAL WATCH | WINTER 2019
