SHINOLA DEBUTS ITS FIRST AUTOMATIC WATCH
SHINOLA IN NOVEMBER INTRODUCED the Lake Erie Monster, the Detroit-based brand’ s first dive watch and first timepiece powered by an automatic movement. Ronda, the Swiss movement firm and longtime Shinola partner, is supplying the movement, which Shinola dubs the Argomatic R-150. Shinola assembles the watch in Detroit.
Named after a local legend, the Lake Erie Monster watch celebrates the Great Lakes as well as the region’ s explorers, sailors, pioneers and divers.
The watch is true dive model that has been tested in-house to meet the ISO 6425 industry standard for dive watches. Its 43mm steel case is water resistant to 1,000 feet( 30ATM) and features a double dome sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. And as a dive watch it features a unidirectional rotating bezel, here with a ceramic insert. A black enamel dial allows the SuperLuminova indexes to be seen with high contrast. On the back you’ ll find an illustration of the Lake Erie Monster of lore, created with a genuine blue sapphire eye.
Limited to 500 timepieces, the watch is priced at $ 2,250. Each watch arrives in a metal case that includes a Princeton Tech diver’ s flashlight, diver’ s map of the Great Lakes, a stainless steel three-link bracelet, a black rubber dive strap and black fabric strap – all interchangeable with included tools.
In conjunction with the launch of the watch, Shinola is also introducing ten limited edition Lake Erie Monster Backpacks and ten limited edition Lake Erie Monster Rolled Flap Bags. Each of these accessories features a laser-cut, hand-stitched appliqué leather pattern, consisting of four different types of leather, creating the three-dimensional effect of the mythical Lake Erie Monster.
