The new watches retain the Marine Torpilleur’s 44mm size and utilize the same COSC-certified UN-118 automatic movement (with silicon escapement) as earlier versions, but these new models arrive with bolder dials (black or dark blue) and are cased in either blackened steel or bronze. The two new Marine Torpilleur Military watches are being offered in limited editions of 300 pieces each. The all-black model is dressed with a handsome matte black DLC case, black dial, touches of luminous khaki on the indexes and a khaki strap. The other is cased in matte bronze with midnight blue dial, light blue markers and a black leather strap. With so many bronze-cased watches now available, many collectors are now aware of the oxidation process that occurs as these cases are worn. The resulting protective patina eventually gives each watch a slightly greenish hue, which means each watch will look a bit different on each wearer over time. On the caseback of each is a stamped rendition of the Torpilleur (torpedo boat) that gives the collection its name. To avoid any allergic reactions, Ulysse Nardin has placed a stainless-steel case back on the bronze model. On the dial, the small seconds at 6 o’clock is embellished with the indi- vidual watch number in red on both watches; the same number also appears on the side of the case of each watch printed on a miniature plaque. Both watches are also engraved with the initials C.W. for chronom- eter watch, a reference to historic military chronometers. Prices: $7,900 (black) and $8,900 (bronze) SUMMER 2019 | INTERNATIONAL WATCH | 119
