Ball Watch’s historical links to railroad timing inevitably led the watchmaker
to develop instruments to assist high-speed travel of all stripes. That is why
Ball over the years has also offered a series of aviation-themed watches.
Among Ball’s top-sellers, the Ball AeroGMT is also one of its brightest,
with a highly illuminated dial and 24-hour bezel. Previously seen draped in
all black, all blue, black and red and even black and green, Ball’s AeroGMT II
now comes in a U.S.-exclusive blue and red bezel along with a free red, white
and blue NATO strap.
The watch’s cockpit-friendly dial lights up in darkness just like you’d
expect. The hour indexes and primary hands glow with yellow H3 gas tubes
while the 3, 6 and 9 markers are hard to miss with their double gas tubes.
At noon a pair of bright orange gas tubes denote the top of the dial. Like-
wise, the watch’s second time zone (the GMT hand) is colored with green gas
tubes in homage to the Ball Watch ‘corporate’ color. Topping the display is
the rotating sapphire bezel fit with gas tubes to make the 24-hour markings
ultra visible.
The watch ($3,499), powered by the BALL RR1201-C automatic,
COSC-certified movement, is among Ball’s most full-featured models with
a 42mm steel case, water-resistant to 100 meters and sealed by Ball’s own
patented crown-protection system.
