THE NEW TIME FAST D8, A VINTAGE-INSPIRED-RACER CLOCK FROM L’EPÉE 1839, boasts
an engine that can last eight days—or rather an in-house caliber with a 192-hour power reserve
beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour.
The clock measures 38.5cm long by 16cm wide by 12cm high and was designed by Georg
Foster from the ECAL (Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne) and L’Epee. These truly retro-inspired
pieces feature a long protruding engine hood, a typical 1950s radiator grill, large spoked wheels,
a driving seat positioned to the rear and the sloping back section. The clock/car winds just like a
pull back toy car.
L’Epee built a series of fun details into the Time Fast D8. The driver here is an escapement
sitting behind the steering wheel under a glass dome. The steering wheel is made in a three-spoke
design typically seen in racecars, and the clock’s owner uses the wheel to set the time.
The Time Fast D8 is a limited edition: 100 pieces per body color, initially produced in red, blue,
green, blue with white stripes and white with blue stripes versions. Price: $30,000.
