BY MICHAEL THOMPSON Rosy Glow The latest Carl F. Bucherer Manero Flyback Chronograph flaunts its retro style with a rose gold case and red accents. BOASTING A ROSE GOLD CASE, BLACK DIAL AND RED ACCENTS, Carl F. Bucherer’s latest Manero Flyback in 2019 joins this family of retro-inspired flyback chronographs. As the eighth piece in the collection, the newest model combines its lush rose gold case with the dial accents and color last seen in 2018 on one of Carl F. Bucherer’s steel-cased additions to the popular line, initially debuted in 2016. Taking design cues from Carl F. Bucherer models from the 1960s and 1970s, the collection elegantly disperses its nostalgic design elements, which include a convex sapphire crystal, mushroom push buttons, perforated rose gold-colored lancet-shaped hands, and wedge-shaped applied indexes. As with its seven siblings, this iteration sports a contemporary 43mm case with a beautifully domed sapphire crystal, front and caseback. Inside you’ll find an automatic CFB 1970 caliber with hours, minutes, small seconds, date and flyback column-wheel chronograph with minutes and seconds counters. The flyback function, here devised in its superior column-wheel configuration (the blued column wheel in fact is visible from the caseback) enables several time intervals to be measured consecutively. The word ‘flyback’ actually refers to the movement of the hands when the reset button is pushed while the chronograph is running. The chronograph hands fly back to zero, while the wheels continue to run in the background. This allows the hands to resume immediately as the reset button is released. Adding to the watch’s retro appeal, the dark grey sporty strap has a suede finish and is crafted from kudu leather. Kudu is a type of antelope with leather that is gaining in popularity for watch straps thanks to its suppleness and unique sporty look. Price: $16,900. 112 | INTERNATIONAL WATCH | SPRING 2019
