FOLLOWING THE PREVIOUSLY RELEASED ALTIPLANO ULTIMATE AUTO-
MATIC 910P , Piaget adds the Altiplano Ultimate Concept, a unique piece powered by
the 900P-UC. The result of four years of research at the hands of Piaget’s Research and
Innovation division, it is touted as the thinnest hand-wound mechanical watch. It is
a mere 2mm thick—the same thickness as the 1957-born Caliber 9P, one of the world’s
thinnest mechanical movements of its time and the predecessor to which this watch
pays tribute.
The 41mm timepiece is crafted from a cobalt-based high-tech alloy to provide
strength despite its lean dimensions, and five patents have been filed for the technolog-
ical innovations the watch employs. All the elements of the caliber and case have been
reimagined—even the crystal has been pared to just 0.2mm compared to the standard
of 1mm. The watch weighs in at 21.7g and features a black PVD-treated and satin-
brushed baseplate and caseback. Offset hours and minutes are at 12 o’clock.
Also for 2018, Piaget reinterprets its hard-stone-dial Altiplano dials with the colorful
31.2mm Altiplano Malachite Marquetry Tourbillon and Altiplano High Jewellery Lapis
Lazuli Tourbillon models. Each features a flying tourbillon withinan ultra-thin case.
