2018
BASEL
REVIEW
AT BASELWORLD 2018, SEVERAL TRENDS WERE EVIDENT. New GMTs,
bronze cases, brown dials and moderate case diameters were debuted by many
watch companies from day one. And, happily, there were inklings of heightened
attention to a reasonable price/value ratio. As an enthusiast, you’re certainly aware
that many of the Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe, Bulgari, Seiko and Tudor debuts domi-
nated much of the show coverage this year, and rightfully so. Bulgari debuted the world’s thin-
nest watch (for now), Patek Philippe showed us the first perpetual calendar in a Nautilus case
and a solid first-ever Aquanaut chronograph, and Tudor launched its own ‘Pepsi’-influenced GMT
model– to much applause. Overall, these top brands, plus a few dozen equally noteworthy watch-
makers, have contributed to what may be the most practical-minded Baselworld in recent years.
On the following pages we’ve assembled many of the show’s most notable new watches. As
usual, we’ve placed them in general categories to make it simple to find timepieces that match
your particular interest.
