JAEGER-LECOULTRE
Polaris Geographic WT
In January at SIHH, Jaeger-LeCoultre focused
attention on its Polaris re-boot, an impres-
sive series of sporty watches meant to recall
the original Polaris II from the mid-1960s.
The launch, which offers a slimmer bezel and
shorter lugs when compared to the original
Polaris, includes a full range of 41mm, 42mm
and 44mm timepieces: a three-hand auto-
matic, a chronograph and a chronograph
world time, as well as two vintage-design
models: the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date and
the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox.
Jaeger-LeCoultre now completes the collec-
tion by rolling out the Polaris Geographic WT,
a slightly smaller, non-chrono alternative to the
already released Polaris Chronograph WT. The
newest steel watch, a limited edition of 250
now available at Jaeger-LeCoultre’s boutiques,
measures 42mm in diameter (the Chronograph
WT measures 44mm in diameter) and houses
the Calibre 936A/1, a mechanical self-winding
Jaeger-LeCoultre caliber.
The new watch functions much like other
Jaeger-LeCoultre world timers, which is no
surprise since the movement here is not new.
Twenty-four time zones are visible on a flange,
which is adjusted by the crown at 10 o’clock. A
nice extra feature, a small white asterisk, indi-
cates to the wearer which cities follow daylight
saving time according to seasons.
With blue subdials, this new WT dial is more
complex–and contemporary–than the other new
Polaris dials. A greater visual depth is created
thanks in part to a nicely subtle transition from
blue to black. You’ll also see an opaline base for
the city disk, a sunray sub-dial for the calendar
(at 2 o’clock), the second time zone at 6 o’clock
and the power reserve at 10 o’clock.
Jaeger-LeCoultre has divided the day/night
disk into two black and white sections to clearly
indicate whether it is day or night in the local city
(the chosen second time zone). Note the small
sun icon indicating the daytime hours and the
small crescent moon for the night hours.
As noted, this Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris
Geographic WT is being issued as a series of 250
pieces and it will exclusively be available at the
Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques. Price: Approxi-
mately $16,300.
