Omega’s Seamaster Planet Ocean ETNZ “Deep Black”
Master Chronometer
OMEGA HAS PARTNERED with Emirates Team New Zealand since 1995,
at that time with legendary round-the-world skipper and America’s
Cup legend Sir Peter Blake. Since then, Omega has only expanded
its support, once again sponsoring the Kiwi crew and serving as
their Official Timekeeper. And Omega was right there as ETNZ raced
to become winners of the America’s Cup in Bermuda,
As with Ulysse Nardin and Panerai, Omega also has released a
yacht timer as part of its America’s Cup partnership in 2017. Called
Speedmaster X-33s Regatta, the titanium watch, with an analog-dig-
ital movement, keeps track of the critical countdown and race time
with its own distinct ringing sequence. Analog functions include
hours, minutes and seconds, as well as a racing countdown.
Digital functions show three different time zones, chronograph,
timer, calendar indication, two alarms and perpetual calendar. For
details about this watch, see our feature on yacht timers in this issue
of iW.
The second Omega America’s Cup watch, the Seamaster Planet
Ocean ETNZ “Deep Black” Master Chronometer, has been made
with supporters in mind and embraces the blue and red of the New
Zealand flag. Cased in black ceramic, the watch features a ceramic
bezel with Omega’s own Liquid-Metal diving scale that highlights the
pre-race 15-minute countdown. The scale is in blue and red rubber
(the colors of the New Zealand flag) for the first ten minutes, and in
LiquidMetal for the final five minutes.
The dot at 12 o’clock is filled with SuperLuminova and emits
a green glow. The watch’s vertically brushed black ceramic dial
sports white gold indexes and a GMT ring with day/night display. An
Emirates Team New Zealand logo in red dominates the reverse side,
which is ringed with the words ‘Challenger 35th America’s Cup.’ A
sporty black structured strap with black and blue rubber lining and
red stitching meet at the brushed black ceramic buckle. ETNZ “Deep
Black” is powered by the Omega Master Chronometer Caliber 8906.
