DIALED IN Horological News F.P. JOURNE & LUDWIG OECHSLIN WIN FHH AWARDS THE FONDATION DE LA HAUTE HORLOGERIE has presented its annual Hommage au Talent and Hommage à la Passion awards to, respectively, François-Paul Journe and Ludwig Oechslin. Journe, an expert in restoration who has mastered watchmaking’s many facets and established his Manufacture in Geneva in 1999, has received many honors over the years, including the Prix Gaïa for best watchmaker, Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres and six different awards at the grand Prix d’Horlogerie of Geneva. The latest award comes as renewed recognition of his talent by an independent jury, under the aegis of the FHH Cultural Council. At the ceremony this spring, the FHH presented its second award, the Hommage à la Passion, to Oechslin, known as an erudite horological constructor and author of extraordinary astronomical watches. Notably, within Journe’s Geneva headquarters stands a magisterial clock by C.L. Detouche that was restored by Oechslin while he was director of the International Museum in La Chaux De Fonds. The Geneva-based company now sells the Frederique Constant Analytics clip, a device that when attached to a watch will measure its accuracy. With this clip and the SwissConnect Analytics App, users can measure the accuracy of their mechanical watches easily, and without the need for the types of measuring devices typically found on watchmaker tables worldwide. After clipping the device to the watch, and when connected to the Analytics App, the device will display (within at least ±0.2s/day) a chart showing the timing of the watch’s oscillating balance wheel, depicted in audio waveform in real time. The result is plotted in a chart, which can be saved for later reference. Also, Analytics can record and save a long-time measurement for hours to analyze the long-time performance. Once the user has registered his or her private account, the Analytics app will back up the watch’s measurements to the cloud and keep data available anywhere. The user can easily restore data if he or she switches to a new smartphone. The $129 device is available at Frederique Constant authorized retailers and through the Frederique Constant webstore at: http://frederiqueconstant.com/analytics/. 28 | INTERNATIONAL WATCH | SUMMER 2017 iWMAGAZINE .COM
