YOU SAW IT HERE
Baselworld. I fi nd when I mention this annual spring Swiss watch and jewelry
show to watch collectors, connoisseurs and afi cionados who’ve never been,
they’re often envious about my attendance each year. And I can understand
why, since each is a watch lover’s feast, and Baselworld 2017 was no diff erent. Even
though the show is now well in my rearview mirror, my mind is still fi lled with the new
products, fresh ideas and interesting people that combine to create the watch industry
as we know it.
B
As happens every year, we were privy to many of the new timepieces via “pre-Basel”
news releases that came out shortly after the fi rst of the year, but there were still many
surprises at the show. Brands are quite sophisticated, after all, when it comes to keeping
the public and press actively and excitedly engaged in their new products, and expertly
timed product rollouts are key. Some themes this year include the use of bi-color metals
for cases and bracelets, smart watches, smaller case sizes, and vintage inspiration.
Longines is noting sixty years of the Heritage
collection as well as its own 185th anniversary.
Also in this issue we focus on the sea, with various
ocean-inspired timepieces and happenings. Enjoy
these and the many other fascinating features that
make up this Summer Edition of International
Watch.
