Discovery Michel Perchin now offers elegant watches. BY GARY GIRDVAINIS THE WRITE TIME HEN PAT PINKSTON RECENTLY CONTACTED ME, I thought he was calling to inform me about for a part II redux on his Michel Perchin line of fine writing instruments. Having previously published Stylus, I knew that Michel Perchin was known for its luxurious writing instruments that embodied precious metals, enamels and champlevé artistry. So I was not really all that surprised to discover that the new Michel Perchin design is elegant timepiece. Crafted in massive solid white gold with diamond-embedded corners and a champlevé dial that would make a Faberge artist jealous, the Michel Perchin timepieces are an accurate evolution of the Michel Perchin style and a welcome addition to the original namesake. In conversation with Pinkston, I expressed my appreciation of the historic techniques of champlevé grand feu enamel as well as the aqueous ice blue tonal qualities of the finished time- piece. Clearly the aesthetic is horological eye-candy that keeps drawing you back for another look. While I do appreciate the rare beauty of the watch, I was kind of under- whelmed with the original plan to use a somewhat pedestrian mechanism beneath such an elegant drapery.
