SIHH ADDS BOVET AND A NEW SCHEDULE
At next year’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), slated from
January 14-17, 2019, in Geneva, visitors will attend for one less day (four days
instead of five) and will have more time each day to see all the new watches.
The annual event will be open for more hours daily, from 8.30am to 8pm.
Show organizers will also continue the initiative started two years ago that
allows the public into the show on Thursday, with a special late-night opening
until 10pm. On Sunday afternoon, the day before the official opening, the
exhibiting brands will have the opportunity to invite selected customers to a
preview of their new collections.
After a steady increase in the number of exhibiting brands over the past
three editions, SIHH 2019 will present 35 exhibitors (18 historic companies
and 17 independents in the Carré des Horlogers), adding Bovet as the newest
historic watchmaker to join the exhibition. Audemars Piguet and Richard Mille
announced that they will no longer exhibit at the show after the 2019 edition.
CITIZEN LIGHTS UP DISASTER RELIEF
Citizen Watch is collaborating with New York-based photographer
Hannah Sider to assist with Citizen’s disaster relief efforts through non-
profit organization Good360. Citizen and Sider teamed up to capture
the stories of individuals in Puerto Rico still affected by the aftermath
of Hurricane Maria and to document how Citizen solar-powered Luci
EMRG lights have helped them during daily tasks. Citizen partnered
with Good360 to provide the lights to help support the recovery
of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and southern Florida. Citizen
continues its Get a Light, Give a Light program in its Times Square
flagship store and on CitizenWatch.com. Through the program, Citizen
donates a light with every Citizen watch purchased.
CHRIS AIRE CASE SETTLED
California-based jeweler Chris Aire’s company, Solid 21, which sued
Hublot of America in 2010, has settled the case, with both sides
dismissing all claims, Bloomberg reported in early October. Solid
21 contended that Hublot and its parent firm LVMH use of the term
Red Gold infringed on Aire’s patent on the use of Red Gold. Aire had
appealed to numerous celebrity clients to testify on his behalf. Terms of
the settlement were not released.
