BLUE AND BURGUNDY The two new U . S . special edition watches flaunt their Seigaiha-patterned dials in vivid blue ( SLA053 ) or deep burgundy ( SLA059 ). The blue model , made as a limited edition of 500 pieces , is designed to suggest moonlit ocean waves . In perfect simpatico , the watch ’ s blackened , extrahard 44.3mm steel case , its familiar ceramic bezel and black silicone strap are meant to symbolize the night sky .
A careful gaze at the dial of the SLA053 during low light might also bring to mind the moon . This can occur when the particularly strong LumiBrite hands , markers and bezel accents reflect onto the deep bluepattern dial . Seiko notes that the moon is importance in Japanese art as a token of enlightenment , dreams , and spirituality in both the Shinto and Zen Buddhist traditions .
Similarly , the watch with the burgundy dial also reflects its luminous markers and hands and here is meant to recall the first rays of the morning sun .
