MAMMOGRAPHY UNIT FEATURE

South Atlantic Region Psi Omega Omega Chapter undergraduates from Delta , Rho Alpha and Pi Xi chapters enthusiastically volunteered their time to serve during the 2-day event , even in the rain .
Each event was led by Soror Tanesha Thompson of Mu Omega Chapter , Mid-Western Regional Representative to the International Program Committee ; introductions by Regional Protocol Chairman , Soror Meredyth Vick of Mu Omega ; greetings and occasion by Mid- Western Regional Director , Soror Twyla Woods Buford-Beta Omega ; remarks by Cluster “ B ” Coordinator , Soror LaTanya Thomas Patton of Beta Omega and Cluster “ C ” Coordinator , Soror Lenora Ivy of Upsilon Rho Omega ; Health Department officials , local dignitaries , and special guest , Soror Ora B . Douglass , International Program Chairman . The program concluded with a ribbon cutting , and tour of the mammogram unit , before patients arrived .
During this event not were mammograms offered , but overall wellness . Additional services included COVID-19 testing and vaccines ,
colorectal cancer screening , blood pressure , BMI assessments , and a lifesaving Blood Drive where 19 donors with a potential to save 42 lives donated .
Kansas City Missouri Mayor Quinton Lucas attended and stated in a social media post that he was proud to spend some of his Saturday with the fine women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority , Incorporated ® . He appreciated the mobile mammogram services and COVID vaccines for those is zip codes who are often left out .
In addition to the Mayor , the event garnered support from Soror Ryana Parks-Shaw , Kansas City 5th District Councilwoman ; Soror Melissa Robinson , Kansas City 3rd District Councilwoman ; and MO State Senator , Soror Barbara Anne Washington .
Residents who came out for the health screenings , ranged in ages from 22-86 . Some disclosed feeling lumps in their breasts , while others had never received a mammogram . One quiet elderly
woman spoke little English and was happy someone on the unit was bilingual and spoke Spanish to assist her .
After the screenings , each patient received a large bag filled with personal care items and a wealth of healthrelated information from health partners , who provided one-on-one consultation at their resource tables .
Overall , it was a successful event with outstanding partners that helped achieve the mission of saving lives . The Kansas City Metro area chapters were grateful to have Mid-Western Regional Director , Soror Twyla Woods- Buford , and the International Program Committee Chairman , Soror Ora Douglas present throughout the twoday event . The local event coordinating team included Sorors Tanesha Thompson , LaTanya Thomas Patton , Lenora Ivy , Rhonda Harris , and Jauqua Preston . The hard work and support of our local chapter basilei , program chairmen , Target II Chairmen , and the graduate advisors helped make the event a success .
