DAY OF PRAYER RECAP
Tulsa Sunday : Remembering , Reclaiming , Restoring
Following a moment of silence , Councilwoman Vanessa Hall Harper , who is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha presented our Supreme Basileus the key to the City of Tulsa and a proclamation sent by Tulsa Mayor , G . T . Bynum .
Owens and the entire congregation . We sincerely thank you for the generous gift to be awarded to our deserving seniors . We feel blessed to be the recipients of this benevolent financial support . Through the sorority ’ s gift , we can continue our efforts to secure the future for the best and the brightest .” She would further exclaim that , “ the sorority ’ s $ 10,000 benevolence will further the education on the completion of high school while making their dreams a reality .”
The worship service was followed by a commemorative walk along the Pathway to Hope where they laid a wreath in memoriam of the lives lost 100 years ago . Sorority members took in archival photos and news articles that lined the trail aimed at educating visitors about Greenwood District ’ s history and resilience .
An International Day of Prayer luncheon hosted at the Greenwood Cultural Center rounded out the ceremonious day . International Day of Prayer Committee Chair , Soror Brenda L . G . Smith led the luncheon attendees in prayer . A symbolic " Bells of Remembrance " for the lives lost was led by Mid-Western Region International Day of Prayer Committee Representative , Soror Jan M . Carpenter-Baker .
The President of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc ., Alpha Tau Lambda Chapter , Russell LaCour graciously presented a check for $ 2,000 to support our HBCU initiatives such as Target 2 : HBCU 4 Life ! and other education initiatives . The hardworking International Day of Prayer Committee also presented a check for $ 1,000 .
First Supreme Anti-Basileus , Soror Danette Anthony Reed gave the commemoration for Black Wall Street and the wreath laying ceremony prayer was delivered by Second Supreme Anti-Basileus , Jasmyne E . McCoy . Former Directorate members were also present for this ceremonious occasion .
We thank everyone who celebrated and observed International Day of Prayer in-person and virtually . We encourage you to keep praying for our sisterhood and the impactful work we do .
