SUPREME BASILEUS APPOINTED TO BOARD OF ADVISORS ON HBCUs BY PRESIDENT BIDEN

President Joseph R . Biden , Jr . has appointed Dr . Glenda Glover , 30th Supreme Basileus of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority , Incorporated ® and President of Tennessee State University to serve as the Vice Chair of the President ’ s Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities ( HBCUs ). The mission of the Board is to advance the mission of the White House HBCU Initiative .
The HBCU Initiative was established in 1980 during the Carter Administration to increase HBCU participation in federally-sponsored programs . The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to the continued support for HBCUs . Through the American Rescue Plan and by forgiving capital improvement debt of many of these institutions , the Biden-Harris Administration has already committed more than $ 4 billion in support . Early this year , the president issued an executive order to strengthen the capacity of
HBCUs to provide the highestquality education , increase opportunities for these institutions to participate in and benefit from Federal programs , and ensure that HBCUs can continue to be engines of opportunity .
Through the sorority and as president of TSU , Dr . Glover has spearheaded groundbreaking work to elevate the stature and capacity of HBCUs . In her role as Supreme Basileus , Soror Glover implemented a successful campaign to raise $ 1 million in one day for HBCUs .
This initiative resulted in Alpha Kappa Alpha exceeding this goal by raising more than $ 1 million in a single day for four consecutive years , which culminated in $ 2.5 million raised on HBCU Impact Day in September 2021 . Significantly , this massive fundraising effort resulted in the establishment of endowments at each of the 96 four-year HBCUs , including her alma mater , TSU .
Alpha Kappa Alpha applauds Supreme Basileus Glover ’ s bold , visionary , strategic leadership to solidify the importance and significance of HBCUs . The groundswell of support and recognition HBCUs have received has been bolstered by the focused work of the sorority as a cornerstone of the Excellence Administration . The appointment of Supreme Basileus Glover as the Vice Chair of the President ’ s Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities ( HBCUs ) is a most fitting acknowledgment of her leadership . We congratulate our Supreme Basileus on this exciting new endeavor and look forward to the ways in which she will continue to champion our treasured HBCUs .
