A more progressive style is the ‘Servant Leader’, who strives to deliver for the team. Make their lives easier, and they will produce the best outcomes. Respect them, and listen to their ideas, and you will have the best chance of achieving what is needed, and in the most efficient manner.
Leadership is everything in achieving worthwhile goals. Set up a trusted and respectful team and you will go beyond the bounds you thought possible, and have a positive experience for everyone in doing it.
Understand the individuality of the individuals in your team, and you will not have to ‘get the whip out’ to drive them
