I want to talk about people not processes.

And of course, I wanted it to be a “bloody good read”.

Like all of us, the last 2 months have been unsettling for me. I believe it has forced us to make decisions that perhaps we would never have had to make, nor have wanted to make even if we had the choice.

For me personally, the decision I was forced into was the need to re-steer my career. Some of you may know prior to COVID-19 (and I hate to say)

I did have the dream job. I was Advisor and

Co-chair of an airline’s operations board, representing over 300 airlines. The role required extensive travel, primarily to the south of France and other European countries (in fact I had planned to spend extended time in Nice during May & June). The role also allowed me to meet amazing people from around the globe and with them design innovative support models for airlines - you see what I mean about the ideal job.

Firstly, it’s an honour for me to have this opportunity to have an article in The Bulletin, thank you to Brad & the team at itSMF. It feels great to be back in the itSMF community.

In this article I am going to be briefly writing on the topic of the moment, COVID-19 and my experience during this crisis. However, this is not the sole focus of my work here, but it serves as segway to something else I wanted to share with you.

When I first sat down to write this column initially I found it quite difficult to decide on the topic. I did not want to talk about IT, and the typical things we do tend to focus on, change management, problem management etc. I want to start discussing how IT and the people that work in IT are perceived.

Humanising IT – and the need for a bloody good read!
