working remotely reduce traffic and promote shorter commute times for non-teleworkers

-Reduced Emissions – According to the EPA, the personal automobile is the single greatest polluter. Reduced commuter travel due to formal telework programs has a significant impact on the overall emissions footprint for communities, regions and countries

-Reduced Strain on Public Infrastructure – Every day that an employee teleworks removes an average of 50kms of wear on local roads

-Fewer Accidents – Reduced traffic and congestion decreases the number of automobile accidents. Additionally, with telework fewer employees drive ‘habitual’ routes during the morning and evening peak, when they may be fatigued or inattentive

-Reduced Dependence on Oil – Fewer trips and shorter commutes equals lower gasoline consumption and reduces our dependence upon oil and other fossil fuel based energy sources

-Transportation – Relieves strain on transportation infrastructure due to jump in the total number of commuters on the road and in the distance they are travelling each way

New Index for Social Impact Assessment of ICT Services

A new index is developed for evaluating the contribution of ICT services to the realization of a sustainability society. This new index, named the ‘Gross Social Feel -good Index’ (GSF), allows us to evaluate both the positive and negative effects of ICT services in terms of their environmental, social and economic influences. In addition, the GSF index includes a happiness index that indicates people's feelings with ICT services . This is a method for evaluating the happiness index that is based on the results of questionnaires about the necessity, usability and impression of ICT services.
