5. The solution? Pollution of our social environment is invisible to most people, just like air pollution and climate change once were. We begin by increasing awareness. But we should act quickly, as data mining and the secrets it reveals is increasing exponentially.

Are we doing the right thing by our children? Are we creating iPad babies, thrust into an abstract scenario, cut off from first-hand experience, no sense of touch, body or time.
Is it time stolen from Ripponlea gardens, laughing with friends, inventing games and developing social skills? So perhaps the best advice when it comes to suspected autism is, “unplug, don’t drug.” Limit your children’s
screen time. Take them outside. Talk to them. Make art together. Teach them the games that you played as a child.
Gill and I caught up last week when I was in Melbourne, and laughed, cried, hugged and reminisced about how much simpler our lives were when we were growing up.
In this world of conformity, will you be brave enough to be different?
