Hi,
Among the many strands to your organisation we include a
unique seminar program and a national Conference which
celebrates its 20 th year this year. These are really the jewels
in the crown of your forum and for most of our members
and sponsors they represent the core value of the
organisation.
I should also point out the Special Interest Group activities
as well, given these seem to be on the upswing and they are
another aspect of what we do – the delivery of targeted
specific information regarding your industry.
These three branches of what we might describe as ‘services
to members’ are all valuable, and valued, non-accredited
learning. Informal, self-generated and targeted; developed
and delivered by industry peer groups or individuals, this is
often thought of in educational circles as being among the
most pertinent and useful training available to coterie
groups.
The aspect I am most appreciative of, and regard as most
important are that these learning opportunities are
self-generated. This ensures they remain relevant and
topical. The feedback mechanisms in place are pretty robust
and no-one is ever left in much doubt when the inevitable
‘misfire’ occurs.
A number of state branch chairs have impressed upon me
the importance of the seminar program. Statements like
“This is the most important thing we do.” are a not
uncommon feature of these discussions and I regard this
sense of ‘ownership’ as a testament to the passion members
have for this particular branch of our training / networking
framework.
I mentioned ‘networking’ and of course this is the other
essential aspect of these activities: the chance to rub
shoulders with your peers across the industry and in general
just catch up over a drink and a bite to eat. The value of this
too is difficult to overestimate and these two things
combined, learning and interacting, are the bedrock on
which your forum is built.
Enjoy the magazine.
