RULE #8 You only have one chance to make a first impression. Do it in style. P eople see who you are before they hear what you say. It always amazes me to talk to a young person about what type of career or vocation they intend to engage in for their future. Without fail, it is an amazing area that requires a lot of professionalism. The thing that is baffling to me is I see this same young personal covered with tattoos, an odd piercing, funny hair or their clothing is cut up, hanging off their body, or showing me stuff I never asked to see. I wonder to myself, “What employer is going to give this person a break?” EARN THE RIGHT TO BE HEARD Now I know there are tons of you that can think of some idol in your head you see on TV who waltzes into corporate America with whatever type of clothing they want on their body and talks the way they want to and they seem to be respected. And you think to yourself, “I could be like that too.” Well here is a little NEWSFLASH for us all: This person earned the right to be heard. The majority of us “regular” people out here must gain the respect of others by doing phenomenal things 23
