If you don’t think voting is important, here are four good reasons to change your mind. Vote!
Norma Lester, Secretary Shelby County Election Commission It’s time to pass the baton!!!! We are entering a time in our society where veteran politicians are calling it quits. Given the current state of affairs it is understandable and if the truth be told it is nothing new. What appears to be new and most damaging to the Democratic Party is the lack of commitment to Party stability. I know there are internships on the State level but locally there should be efforts underway to reach out and mentor replacements especially in the downside of limited terms. This would acquaint a new comer to the system, various laws, processes and positions on issues in a particular segment of the community. Of course this does not mean anyone is entitled to a position and those committed certainly have a right to run. However in demonstrating commitment we should see some evidence of what the individual did in the community “PRIOR” to seeking office. It would also help if the Democratic Party would identify potential leaders and match them with current office holders. We certainly have an obligation to encourage folks to vote, but we should also feel obligated to provide them with desirable candidates to vote for!
