Cultural Fair at the Hague University
On May 20, 2015, a studying zone in the European Studies Canteen became a global village with
various smells of national cuisines spreading in the air, colours of flags and the student vibrant
atmosphere. On this day a cultural fair was hosted, whereby exchange students cooked their
traditional meals according to their country of origin.
Every stand represented a certain country, being decorated with national flags, souvenirs, students in
traditional clothes serving local delicacies and drinks. Still the most attractive thing for students
remained the diverse range of food almost from every corner of the world, which continuously
disappeared in less than an hour.
Asian tastes were based on rice, meat and vegetable. South Korea made an impression with sushi,
Thailand came with healthy rice balls and China did not stay behind with well-known sweet and sour 25
chicken. In the Brazilian stand you could watch football while your tequila was being shaked with a
fresh lime juice. Great Britain brought to the “battle” a variety of beers, however Czech Republic served
their own brand with a piece of apple strudel. Among others were represented Turkey, USA, Greece,
Sweden, Taiwan or even the Netherlands with stroopwafels and boterkoeken. Congratulations on the
most delicious cuisine officially go to Greece and Turkey!
Cultural Fair is a traditional event of the Hague University organized twice a year, aiming to underline
the multicultural setting on its grounds. This way students get the chance not only to get to know new
peers from all around the world, but also a small part of their cultural background. The next one will
be organized in autumn around November.
