They don’t want women to only be stereotyped as emotional, soft and caring, but also as strong, individualistic and fierce. They are trying to show that women are capable of doing many things, being a mother and a businesswoman at the same time for instance. But the recreation of the image of women and of the image of being feminists is hard. Both unfortunately still have a negative image. Being a feminist doesn’t mean that you’re anti-man, isolating and aggressive as it is often perceived. It means that you stand up for women’s rights and empowering women. This negative image influences women not to identify themselves as feminists. Celeb(rating) feminism Feminism is getting a lot more attention nowadays than it used to get, because of all the publicity it gets. One of the reasons for this phenomenon is the group of celebrities that openly present themselves as a feminist. These women inspire young women to stand up for their rights, be individualistic and fierce. Besides that these women give feminism more publicity, they also help feminism improving their image in appearance. Since the image of feminists as women not shaving their legs and dressing manly still exists. They show that you can have the ideals of gender equality and dress like a woman. Being a feminist and feminine at the same time. They also show that you, as a woman, don’t have to be afraid of labeling yourself a feminist.
