rethane, bolstered by the growing focus on energy efficiency and building renovation. This positive trend is also confirmed by the prospects for the non-residential construction sector, which is expected to continue growing in the coming years thanks to public investment and building renovation plans. This is nothing new for Union. The company has long operated in the rigid and expanded materials sectors, developing turnkey lines for sheets, insulating panels, profiles and high-tech industrial applications.
EXPORTS REMAIN A TRUE DRIVER In a slowly growing European market, the international dimension is becoming increasingly crucial. Passoni describes a market that today requires a constant presence. In recent months, he visited numerous
countries in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe to identify new opportunities and understand the evolution of local demand. For the manager, trade fairs continue to be a useful tool, but they are no longer sufficient. True value comes from direct presence, which makes it possible to understand production needs, operational issues and new projects. This vision is consistent with the very organisation of Union, which over the years has developed an international network operating in numerous application sectors.
THE VALUE OF CUSTOMISATION In an increasingly challenging scenario, Passoni believes that the competitive edge of Italian manufacturers lies in their ability to design customised systems and support customers throughout the entire production process. This approach is also applied by Union through its subsidiary Tecom, which specialises in blown film lines, with projects that integrate recycled materials, bio-based polymers and new solutions for the circular economy. According to Passoni, the market is increasingly rewarding suppliers capable of adapting their technologies
to customer needs rather than offering standard platforms.
HUMAN RESOURCES ARE THE REAL CHALLENGE More than market fluctuations, however, there is one issue that concerns the supply chain as a whole: the shortage of expertise. Qualified technicians, designers, machine operators and experienced salespeople are increasingly difficult to find. This problem is not limited to Italy, but is also emerging in many other countries. For Passoni, this is the real challenge for the coming years. Many companies do have the financial resources necessary to invest, but they hesitate because they are not sure of finding the right people to run their production systems and develop their business. In this scenario, Union’ s CEO concludes, companies that continue to invest in expertise, technology and an international markets will still have significant growth opportunities, provided that they do not lose sight of their industrial identity and focus on what they do best: building machines and systems capable of generating real value for customers.
