FUTURE CHALLENGES Union has outlined the new challenges to be faced over the 2024-2028 period in order to strengthen its position as a leading technology supplier . These challenges include :
• Strengthening the company ’ s engineering team to improve equipment efficiency through the „ Union Extrusion Life Run “ project . This implies state-of-the-art expertise in devising advanced line control systems ensuring open interfacing and digitalisation of process data aimed to maximise the efficiency of the equipment supplied .
• Supporting the concept of sustainability with the „ Union Zero Problems “ programme by offering customers access to the „ Union Total Customer Care “ portal which sets new standards in aftersales services that are unique in the industry , with maximum effectiveness in areas such as on-site FAT , commissioning and start-up services , as well
as remote and on-site troubleshooting .
• Optimisation of the „ Union Lean & Slim “ organisational vision with the support of highly qualified personnel and a project team who guarantee absolute quality control and fast reaction times thanks to a lean organisational chart and a fast command line when taking critical decisions .
• Continuous development of technologies oriented towards the intensive use of recycled and biodegradable materials of the last generation , promoting upcycling and the UD & SE programme ( Union Direct & Smart Extrusion ) in flat head and blown film extrusion processes , especially for packaging and converting applications . Union has been a pioneer in addressing the need for reducing the weight and thickness of packaging materials , in line with international regulations aimed at limiting the use of polymers and promoting the use of regenerated materials .

UNION EXTRUSION DOME The Union group recently announced that in January 2025 the foundation stone will be laid at the Union Extrusion Dome , destined to become home to the group ‘ s R & D centre equipped with laboratory-scale machines , pilot plants and complete industrial lines . The new centre is set to become the European technical hub of flat head and blown film extrusion technology , fully available to converters . The Union Extrusion Dome will provide the following services : 1 . Training the customers ’ staff on the specific processes to be carried out on the machines purchased from the Union group .
2 . Testing new machines and technologies , including the development of innovative recipes for existing products .
3 . Use of equipment for customer ’ s tests and R & D projects , with NDA coverage .
4 . Organisation of open houses for live demos of new Union technologies .
5 . Headquarters of the Union Academy available for open training sessions on extrusion technologies , for the improvement of overall equipment effectiveness ( OEE ) and for the world of regenerated and biodegradable materials .
