into the playoffs , they know what to do and they are physically in shape . To create depth with the running backs has created depth in other places because of that .
Offensively Huntsville knows most of the answers as they lost one weapon and brought back a core of receivers that can haul in passes .
The Hornets will likely see Austin Taylor start under center but still have Markcus Lewis to come in and guide the team , even with a position change .
Huntsville will have Josh Stanley , Savion Conteh , Hunter Lorenz and Jerious Singletary returning as wideouts for this season .
Singletary is going to be a Swiss army knife for the Hornets this year , as he was last year . While listed as a tight end he can play defensive line and provide for the Hornets . Singletary broke on the scene last year as the Hornets started utilizing the tight end position more .
“ We have all our receivers back . We have our tight ends back and can go into games with different mindsets . Hopefully , our rollouts will improve ,” Southern said . “ Jerious has gotten a year older and bigger . We may not be as big as some other teams , but our numbers are good .” Despite the Hornets having a strong roster returning , the district the Hornets were placed in makes it a gauntlet .
Huntsville dropped Richmond Randle but picked up PN-G and stayed with Lake Creek . On top of that , the Hornets moved into Region II . For a state-run , Huntsville would see PN-G , Lake Creek , South Oak Cliff or Lovejoy to get there .
But , that was accounted for with a non-district setup that will likely keep the Hornets in strong playoff contention .
“ You want to play non-district and I wanted to get away from some of the 6A ’ s we ’ ve been playing . We have matched up well against Bryan and their numbers are compatible with our numbers . Cedar Park , for us , is an opportunity to travel a long way and play a well-coached football team . I love the fact of having seven district games because normally you get your bye week near the end of the first six weeks . You can fix some grade issues and do all the stuff if you do have injuries .”
Huntsville opens up its season on Aug . 30 with a home game against former district mate Brenham .
