Welcome to Itawamba County

WELCOME
On behalf of the Itawamba County Development Council, we invite you to enjoy the wonder as you wander Itawamba County!
Nestled at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, our heritage and attractions cover a broad spectrum of interest. From our earliest days, you’ ll find rich Native American history by traveling the Natchez Trace. Our local scenic sites include the Twenty Mile Overlook, Donnavan Slough and Pharr Mounds.
For those who love the outdoors, the Jamie Whitten Historical Center Complex, designed by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District, includes an interesting museum with exhibits and displays that illustrate our history. In addition, there are picnic pavilions, nature trails, a boat ramp, paved volleyball and basketball courts, camping areas, and RV pads. The center also has a covered terrace overlooking the beautiful Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. Stretching from the Tennessee River to the Gulf of Mexico, the manmade marvel is a favorite among fisherman, boaters, and those who are just looking for a place to relax.
If relaxation isn’ t on your list, take a walk on the 2.2 mile Tenn- Tom Walking Track. Or for a side of history with your exercise, take a bicycle ride on the Underground Railroad Bicycle Route. Stretching from Mobile, Alabama, to Owen Sound, Ontario, you’ ll find one of the first stops on the over 2,000-mile-long route right here in Itawamba County.
Our hometown hospitality extends beyond Fulton, our county seat. When exploring the Town of Mantachie, enjoy their Town Park with recreational space for young and old, picnic tables, and two pavilions that house a Farmer’ s Market in the summer months. If history is your cup of tea, contact the Itawamba Historical Society for a tour of the George Poteet History Center and the Bonds House.
And don’ t miss Tremont on your travels. Birthplace of the First Lady of Country Music, the Tammy Wynette Legacy Center and Theater offers a museum looking back into the life of Wynette. The TWLC also houses a restaurant and the theater features local musicians including concerts by the Mississippi School of Music.
Nestled among these treasures are festivals, events, and an abundance of communities with their on special niche ready for you to explore.
Welcome and enjoy the wonder while you wander Itawamba County!
