Relais Sant ' Uffizio Cioccaro di Penango , near Asti

Cioccaro di Penango is a tiny village nestled in the hills of Monferrato and nearby is the delightful Relais Sant ' Uffizio , whose low�lying 16th Century structure with terracotta roofs was originally a Benedictine monastery . The hotel has a wonderfully peaceful location , surrounded by extensive parkland covered with ancient trees and vine�covered hills . It is known throughout the region for its restaurant , where the very best in Piedmontese cuisine is served on pristine white tablecloths and complemented by fine regional wines , one variety of which is produced on the premises . The menu varies according to the season , and delicacies such as truffles , duck stuffed with honey and rum and home�made gnocchi are sometimes featured . The hotel has been decorated in period style with great taste ; many of the comfortable bedrooms have antique wooden furniture , there are frescoes in the junior suites and glass ceilings in some of the bathrooms . Villa Beccaris is a gracious 18th Century mansion of ochre stone in the gentle and unspoilt countryside of Piemonte . One side of the hotel faces the historic hilltop village of Monforte d ' Alba and on the other side is 2500 square metres of tranquil parkland , whose marked paths make it ideal for taking a stroll and admiring the uninterrupted beauty of the countryside . Beyond the park are the vineyards which provide the region ' s distinctive wine . Villa Beccaris has been expertly restored and refurbished . The interiors are decorated throughout in the style of the period in which the villa was built and many of the bedrooms have glorious views of the verdant landscape .
