Whatever is a reality today, whatever you touch and believe in and that seems real for you today, is going to be - like the reality of yesterday - an illusion tomorrow.
- Luigi Pirandello
“War” uses ironic characterization to teach us a theme about denying certain truths. The ironic characterization is found in the woman and in the other passengers. The passengers are seen as intelligent people who are worried about losing their loved ones, but by the end of the story, the woman, who was described as a simple and stupid character, teaches everyone a lesson with one simple question. The theme is denying certain truths whether they are good or bad.
