Traveling to Italy in 2020
S
pring and summer are very busy
travel times in Italy and Sicily. It is
not too late to make plans right now
to travel to Italy or Sicily in the coming
months. Flights can be taken from New
Orleans with a stop in one of the major
airports like Atlanta or JFK to board a
transatlantic flight straight to Rome.
From there, if you are headed to Sicily,
there are direct flights from Rome to
Palermo. From Palermo, then you can
take the train or private car throughout
Sicily.
This year of 2020, we have many
uncertainties when we are considering
traveling out of the United States. Now
we are concerned with viruses, terrorism
and violence. It is sad to think that we
have to worry about these things but we
do! We can be prepared and still travel
to see the world. We can be aware of our
surroundings, take care of ourselves and
enjoy traveling especially to Italy and
Sicily. Don’t forget your washcloths, too!
Cefalu is about an hour to the east of
Palermo by train. If you have not traveled
to Cefalu, you need to start planning your
trip of a lifetime right now to where our
ancestors were born and lived until they
came to America either through Ellis
Island or the port of New Orleans. While
you are there in Cefalu, take time to visit
the beautiful cathedral or just sit in the
square thinking about life as it was over
one hundred years ago for our ancestors.
As you walk along the cobbled streets,
you can smell the Tyrrhranian sea. Be

sure to try some of the seafood delicacies
and scrumptious cannolis for sure. Don’t
forget to walk up to the top of La Roca to
see all of Cefalu and also visit the cemetery
while you are there in Cefalu.
