Elenian Day at the
Races for Charity
by Faith Peperone
The Elenians celebrated another tradition, a Day
at the Races, also known as a Run for Our Roses to
fundraising for their charities of Magnolia Commu-
nity Services and Wish to Fish Louisiana. All ages
enjoyed coming to see the horses in the wonderful
Black and Gold Room. The fourth race was named
in honor of the Elenian Club. Dominante won the
race. Elenian ladies of Italian descent continue our
goal of keeping our Italian heritage alive by holding
fun, family and local events that bring us together.

Cefalù’s
Palette of Spring
by Rose Brocato
Spring in Cefalu, Italy brings many colors to
the surface for all to enjoy. The rich palette before
your eyes wakes you up each morning. Cefalu
is called the Pearl of the Mediterranean. Some
pronounced colors of Sicily are blue for the color
of the sea, gold for the beautiful beaches and
green which is the color of countryside rich in
olive trees. The beach in Cefalu is magnificent to
say the least. There is a rainbow of colors for
your eyes to feast on as you lay on the beach and
breath in the salt air. Red is a favorite color in
Cefalu which is one of the colors on the Italian
flag but truly because of Cefalu’s unforgettable
sunsets. When you experience a sunset in Cefalu
for the first time, red will become one of your
memorable colors especially during the spring
season. I hope you are planning a trip to Cefalu
soon to visit where our ancestors enjoyed the
many colors of spring.
