postable and partially obtained from renewable sources . It is clear that these characteristics have been studied in order to reduce its environmental impact compared to other traditional solutions .”

“ This is an innovation that decisively changes the impact of a material that is used every day by millions of households for the preservation of food ” Renato Zelcher , CEO of Crocco , explains . This new transparent film is biodegradable , com-
OK COMPOST GUARANTEED Leaf is biodegradable and compostable according to the UNI EN 13432 standard , and is guaranteed under the Ok Compost Industrial label by TÜV Austria . As a result , it can be disposed of in the organic fraction of domestic waste and enter the industrial composting cycle without impacting on other waste treatment chains . The new compostable food film can be used both for manual packaging , as a household cling film , in neighbourhood shops or large retail stores , andalso for automatic packaging , i . e . for largescale industrial productions . “ The word revolution is often misused - Zelcher concludes - but in this case I believe it can be used appropriately . Today , an over-the-counter food product can finally guarantee not only the safety of the packaging , but also its total compostability . Not to mention the use in home kitchens . Once and for all it will be possible to store food , or even the leftover of the day , using a safe film that can be disposed of in the wet fraction , therefore contributing to the protection of the environment while also reducing food waste .”

CUTTING CO 2
EMISSIONS As for industrial production , there is also the possibility to neutralize the residual CO 2 emissions
of the film ( albeit low ) through the Greenside eco-design process devised by Crocco : “ We are in fact able - Zelcher explains - to measure the carbon footprint of the packaging , that is to say the greenhouse gas emissions throughout its life cycle , possibly redefining its design in terms of downgauging the film or changing the material used ( i . e . recycled material ) and , finally , ensuring that the residual emissions are offset through the purchase of carbon credits , for example by supporting sustainable projects such as reforestation or energy production from renewable sources as provided for by international agreements .”
