DEAR READER,
Throughout every chapter of life, we
tend to look back, reflect in retrospect on
the good times and the not so good ones.
Reminiscing, we think about the people we
shared special moments with, things we
have done that brought us joy, a great
sense of accomplishment, fulfilment and
contentment, and other things that we
perhaps were regretful about.
Ah friend, regret is such a conflicting
sentiment, we sit there reflecting on what
should have or could have happened, had
we done or said one thing, just one little
thing differently. Sometimes, it haunts us,
consumes us, whispering that we could
have been better, or done things better.
The thing is, looking back is a way to
move forward, and by letting go of things
that weigh us down, we can keep moving
forward onto greater things. By looking
back, we gradually learn how to become at
peace with ourselves, we learn how to
grow, how to appreciate little moments of
our life, the good and the bad, the sweet
and bitter. We have all had these moments
that we look back on with a warm heart
and a goofy smile on our faces. For
instance, the school days we lived, that
first person we kissed. Summer sunsets,
when we had no worries and no regrets,
Holding hands under the starry night sky,
dreaming and aiming high. Wandering
around a new place, losing all notion of
time and space. Culinary explorations,
long and deep conversations. Heart racing,
hands shivering, that first hello, that last
goodbye. Being on the edge of giving up,
going through a break up, dealing with
new challenges as a grown up, wishing it is
all a dream and wanting to wake up.
Moments when you conquer your fears,
find inspiration, follow your aspirations.
Ah, mere satisfaction.
At the end of the day, when we are old
and grey and, our worries have somewhat
lessened or faded away, we would want to
be able to say: that was one stupendous
journey.
