Quick Compute Helps Denton Navarro Rocha Bernal & Zech Expand Across The State Of Texas
BY RIC NAVARRO
Founded in 1989 , Denton Navarro Rocha Bernal & Zech ( DNRBZ ) is a Texas law firm whose client base is exclusively local governments in the state of Texas . The founding partners all served as local government attorneys in cities and counties in Central Texas . After leaving government employment , the Firm ’ s shareholders formed DNRBZ to continue to provide legal services to these entities . The Firm began originally as a boutique litigation firm , focusing only on handling courtroom work for local government . Later , with the addition of Susan Rocha ( now deceased ) as a Partner , the Firm ’ s work expanded to provide general counsel , special counsel , and transactional legal services for local government entities . Our philosophy of “ Rampage Law ” legal services represents a philosophy shared by all Partners , Shareholders , Associates , and support staff to provide creative solutions to solving client problems and to do so at a reasonable cost .
We first crossed paths with Quick Compute in 1998 when the Firm had been engaged to handle a few specialized lawsuits in the area of Texas known as the Rio Grande Valley ( RGV ) for certain water and irrigation districts . The RGV is comprised of four Texas counties located along the Texas – Mexico border at the southern-most tip of Texas . Back then , given the amount of travel that we were doing to visit clients in and around Central Texas , we had started using laptops as a way of carrying our work product with us . On one of my early trips to RGV , I was having trouble with my laptop , and I happened to be in Harlingen , Texas . I was driving down 77 Sunshine Strip when I noticed a business called Quick Compute ( QC ) which appeared to provide computer training and service . I stopped by and asked if they could look at my laptop . I believe I met Cliff first , and I later met Holly . Quick Compute fixed my laptop .
In the next couple of years , the Firm was engaged to provide more and more legal services in RGV . By 2000 , we had decided to open a local office in the RGV , which I headed . Because of the distance from San Antonio , which ruled out commuting , I move to Harlingen , Texas . From time to time , I continued to use Quick Compute to resolve computer-related issues . In the next few years , we rented office space , added local attorneys and staff , and eventually bought our own building in Harlingen . Throughout this time , we continued to look to QC for IT support for our RGV office . Eventually , by 2003 , we had our own local server , our own case management system , and our own administrative systems for billing and accounting . We relied on QC for support on this . We eventually entered into a Managed Service Provider ( MSP ) Agreement in the RGV Office using QC locally .
What I liked about working with Holly and Cliff was that they were technically competent in their craft and had lots to offer , but they did not overwhelm me with sales pitches . QC never tried to sell me things that I did not really need . I told them what I was doing , I explained my needs , and I received advice and suggestions about what was available in the tech market . Solid tech advice — no sales pitches . I had worked with IT companies in San Antonio and noticed that the IT providers tended to fall into two groups — the techs and the sales . Sales was always trying to sell me stuff we did not need . The techs , with some exceptions , did not know how to communicate and did not seem to understand , or care , about our legal business . With QC , I did not encounter this , which was refreshing .
Later , we grew our Firm to include local offices not only in RGV but in Austin ( the State Capitol ) and later yet in the Houston metroplex area as well . When this happened , we outgrew our IT systems , which were stand-alone systems office by office . It took a while , but we eventually found a professional services suite of programs that allowed us to put all of our offices into the cloud . This allowed us to have a seamless connection between all offices and all authorized users . We used a specialized consultant to identify the program suite , but that consultant worked hand in hand with QC to design the system .
As an addition to the cloud-based programs , QC also helped us establish a set of VPNs that allowed us to tie all the offices together and to provide direct access to each of our servers . This domain unification project ( the Azure project ) was technically difficult , but once deployed , it made it possible for our existing server space to be available across all offices and all users . We expanded the MSP Agreement to have QC serve as our domain administrator and to manage the VPN network . The beauty of it is that it can be done pretty much from anywhere at any time , so long as there is internet connectivity .
Our IT systems have become complex and require using specialty IT consultants . QC works well with other IT providers and makes recommendations about who best to use . This ability to consult and collaborate with other IT providers is also an asset to the work that QC has done for the Firm .
So at this point , we have had a 25-year relationship with QC , originally through the RGV office only , but now Firm-wide and state-wide . As we bring in the next generation of Shareholders and Partners into the Firm , we expect to have a continuing relationship with QC and its owners and staff . We are fortunate to have grown with their company over the years and look forward to many more years of working together . To other businesses looking for an IT services provider that is honest and efficient , we highly recommend working with Holly and her team .
