moments in history — the COVID-19 pandemic being the most recent . To her , every hurdle is worth it when there are babies , kids , and teens waiting to be helped on the other side of the obstacle . She was initially brought in as a consultant all those years ago . She was supposed to stay for three months to help the clinic through a turbulent time . Instead , she planted roots in the community and has been in the valley for almost three decades .
Taking care of the 4,000 patients that are on the active patient roster is no easy feat . Luckily , the committed team at Valley Children ’ s Clinic ( VCC ) consists of three passionate providers , 15 staff members , involved third-party vendors , and a warm community . Taking care of children , helping them grow , and supporting their developmental needs takes a village . Everyone in the VCC ecosystem and the surrounding community is part of that village .
An unsuspecting — but very important — contributor to the village is the team at Quick Compute , the managed IT firm that has supported the clinic since the ’ 90s .
A LOT CAN CHANGE IN 26 YEARS
In the early days of running the clinic , Tanya didn ’ t even have her own email . She laughs about it now , but at the time , she thought it was unnecessary and almost silly . As she orchestrated the switch from an old computer system — Medisoft — to the one they used today — AthenaPractice — it became clear that the in-house IT person was in over his head . “ Back then , our IT guy was limited on what he could do . I needed to find a company that could take us into the next era of computers . I needed to integrate everything , send out billing , work with the internet , and get cohesive phone systems .”
It became very clear to Tanya that the only way out was with someone who knew what they were doing when it came to technology in the healthcare space . She talked to many , many IT providers , but Holly Fullingim was a cut above the rest . “ We asked her all the questions of what they could do , what they could offer us , and what they saw for the future of the industry . We met with a few companies , but Holly and her team stood out . She likes to keep fires from even starting , and that ’ s my personality too ,” Tanya explained .
GETTING AHEAD OF THE FIRES
In the medical field , when things start to go wrong , the doctors and medical staff intervene because they ’ re the ones that can solve health problems . If things go wrong with the patients , Dr . David Sauceda , Victor Valazquez , PA-C , Hector Hernandez , PA-C , and the rest of the medical team step in . When things go wrong with the technology , it ’ s time for Holly and the team at Quick Compute to shine , and they always do .
“ We had a company that we worked with that had a ransomware attack on Father ’ s Day of this year . They ’ re a smaller company — people think ‘ I ’ m nobody , I won ’ t get attacked ’— but they did . I immediately — on a Sunday — texted Jason , a member of Holly ’ s team , and said ‘ I ’ ve got an emergency . We need to make sure our stuff is safe .’ They jumped immediately . The hackers couldn ’ t pass our firewalls or anything because of how Quick Compute set our system up , but it was a very scary few hours ,” remembered Tanya .
Holly and her team have handled every surprise that has come their way with grace , but they go above and beyond that . Together , Holly and Tanya developed a HIPPA program that outlined a set of requirements surrounding high technology and HIPPA laws . The custom program became part of the training requirements for new and current staff members , helping everyone stay updated , get educated , and learn how to protect the private information of the 4,000 patients they serve . “ In our field , you can ’ t risk it . If you have private info — SSN , DOB , home address , phone number — that needs to be secured and locked down ,” Tanya reiterated .
LOBSTER ON A PB & J BUDGET
“ Sometimes people want lobster on a PB & J budget ,” Tanya joked when asked if she had any advice for other business leaders who might not have the right IT support in place . “ Holly is the lobster , her team is the lobster , and you ’ re going to have a pay a fair price for that .” IT is not the place to limit the budget . The security of your technology directly impacts your organization ’ s ability to operate , the trust your customers have in your services , and so much more .
Tanya works with other offices as a consultant , and she tries to provide multiple vendor options , but when it comes to IT , she believes Quick Compute is the only option .
ADAPTING TO PATIENT NEEDS
Many of the young patients at the clinic were negatively impacted by the isolation brought on by the pandemic . They ’ re multiple years behind developmentally , and in an effort to get everyone back on track , the clinic has amped up its therapy access . Speech therapy , occupational therapy , and mental health support are more critical than ever . When the people you serve need something different , you make it happen .
Just like Tanya and the team at the Valley Children ’ s Clinic spend every day making the lives of their patients better , Holly and the team at Quick Compute ensure that they provide the IT support needed to enable care . Things like telehealth capabilities and encrypted patient portals all play a vital role in patient care today . “ I can ’ t say enough about Holly and her team . They are second to none . They have helped us and stood by us all these years through thick and thin . They are truly a part of our success .”
It takes a village , and this is what a village looks like .
