Doubtless ,sailing along the Bosphorus,
one of the most scenic settings of the world,
would be a wonderful activity to be done in
Istanbul in summer.
If you like to enjoy the freedom in
color turqoise with the spectacular
view of Istanbul , you set to sail
from the Asian part of the city, from
Kadıköy.
For to learn more about sailing in
Istanbul we have visited Marmara
Sailing Club one of the prominents
of the city that have contributions to
prepare many national sportsmensportswomen . At the scenic
restaurant of the club,we have met
with Mr. Cenan Torunoğlu vicecommodore and member of the
auditing committe and Mr. Ahmet
Oranos technical member of the
board .

Mr. Torunoglu arriving right after
strategical plannings meetings at
Kadiköy Manucipality that he spent
his entire day , he was still energetic
and full of hope and enthusiasm for
sailing, coaching young sportsmenwomen. As he spoke , he transffered
his love of Istanbul and especially of
Kadiköy district to us.
Mr . Torunoğlu you said “ Kadıköy
is the center of sailing in Turkey”
Can you tell us more about it.?
Firstly, clubs that steer sailing
in Turkey - Marmara Sailing
Club,Istanbul Sailing Club and
Kalamış Sailing Club are all
located in Kadiköy. Young people
from different socio –economical
backgrounds of the district attend to
our sailing courses and some become
national sport proffessionals.
At this point it is necessary to
mention about the history of Kadiköy
too.Kadıköy is an older settlement
than most of those on the Asian side
of the city of İstanbul. Relics dating to
5500-3500 BC (Chalcolithic period)
have been found at the Fikirtepe
Mound, and articles of stone, bone,
ceramic, jewelry and bronze show
that there has been a continuous
settlement since prehistoric times.
A port settlement dating from the
Phoenicians has also been discovered.
Chalcedon was the first settlement
which the Greeks from Megara
established on the Bosphorus.
A few years before they established
Byzantium on the other side of the
strait in 667 BC. Chalcedon became
known as the ‘city of the blind’, the
