ANADOLU KİLİMLERİ A natolian Rugs are the textile objects that Turks have created in visual arts.The value of Turkish Rugs vowen by different Turkish tribes have not been realized until modern times.Even it has been known that Turks have only minatur in terms of visual arts through history.Rugs vowen by yörüks and Türkmens called as “Bisat” and “Berced” in Ottoman times.They used to be underestimated and categorized as simple public artisan objects. These rugs were simply woven and they are called Cicim, Sumak, Zili.Traditionally they are used as pillows,belts,bags. You can not find the name of the person who has woven the rug but one can understand the identity of the person,his/ her family/time tracing the style and colors on the rug. This art has a 14 • I S T A N B U L A L I V E deep roots in Anatolia and the difficulty and effort for to create them has become the subjects of some proverbs and idioms throughout the history like: “Weaving carpet is the work of a master,weaving rug is the work of a crazy,weaving scarf is the work of a wisdom”In rural areas , rugs woven by young women before marriage were not be shown before her engagement , just before Western Cultures started to understand the real values of Turkish Rugs and evaluated them in the approach of Modern Art.Different from the Goblen-Tapestry of the west which can be determined asa the equivalent objects to Turkish Rugs,figures on Turkish Rugs are stylized with geometrical symbolic motives the marriage ceremony these works of her used to be exhibited .
