Q & A Julian black antelope B r e a k O u t Y e a r F o r I n d i g e n o u s C a n a d i a n S t a r You have been very busy actor and producer this year, how have you been able to do it all and accomplish so much in the last year? PHOTOGRAPHY BY TIFF LIGHTBOX That’s a great question. As an actor that’s easy, just put in the work and constantly beat on your craft and leave the rest to fate. When it comes to producing? I’d have to say it’s all owed to one man in particular, Laurie Venning. Through his belief in myself as a Film Maker and his support of financial resources, 775 has been able to grow as a viable production entity through its slate of feature films like TRUE FICTION which is coming out this year. Of course, there’s a lot of hard work that takes place in the trenches seeing those films to fruition but without him 775 Media Corp would be just another struggling production company. What projects have you been a part of this year? 2019 has been off to a great start so far. I did a feature film called “Thunderbird” ou in Port Hardy in which I play a character (a good guy for a change) called Chief George who befriends an ostracized young man named Will who has a “Special Gift”. The story itself is nestled deep in the culture of indigenous people of that region Kwak’wala. In addition to that Im also starring in my own Television series called “The Secret History of the Wild West” which is currently shooting. So definitely cant complain! What was it like to be on set with Jann Arden and tell us about your role?! Jann is an awesome lady to say the least. I love her wit, her vibe-everything about her. I played her former “Ex-Boyfriend/Guitar Player” I did not expect to book that role but I’m glad I did, it was so much fun. Jann’s super easy to work with so I hope ‘ol “Reggie” Comes back to play again because it was a gas. What is your favorite part of being married and having a partner who supports you and is by your side helping your productions? People come along once in a lifetime and if you’re lucky enough you’ll have all your senses working when they do. Tracy Walaschuk (my Wife) is that person. My wife she really is my right arm and I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without her. Together we have three beautiful girls, so she is busy too. She keeps the house from burning to the ground while I’m out working (laughs) but Tracy is much more than that. It's not easy being married to an artist let alone an Actor. She’s my sounding board, my voice of reason and my best critic that kicks me in the ass when I need it. I truly feel blessed she chose to journey with me. What was working with Allan Hawco like for CBC's Caught? That was another great experience. Allan Hawco’s a straight up, easy-going guy who’s one hell of an actor. He cast me as “Tommy Gabriel” a drug dealing pimp who’s one half of two psychotic brothers who historically played a part in the “Caught real life story”. Originally the real-life characters were Italian but Allan thought “outside the box” and decided to throw an aboriginal face in the mix. We need more Producers and Creatives that think like Allan Hawco. I'M HERE WITH | 11
