Q4. All of your diamonds come from the Kimberley Process Certification. Tell us about the certification for those who don’t know it. Secondly, what do you both look for as owners of Eden Rocks? ND: So basically, the Kimberley Process was formed in 2003 by De Beers Mines. It was purely to simply make sure responsible sourced diamonds are cut and polished, and they are certified by GIA (Gemological Institute of America), HRD, IGI or EGL, the four main certifications on the planet. Now, De Beers has a new certificate which is going to take over the GIA. We adhere as much as we can to this process. It is down to our suppliers to also be as ethical and responsible as possible. We don’t want to deal with liars, which is why we buy our diamonds from two suppliers which I have been dealing with for 20 years. So, we have as positive of an approach to the industry, as possible. But, we don’t sell Canadian diamonds where we know that there is no conflict. Yet, we do sell other diamonds from other parts of the world like South Africa, and Australia with no conflict. We do actively look out for suppliers which are traceable, as much as possible. Our ethos is to continue with that route! Q5. When it comes to your business, it seems like your company is focused primarily on engagements and weddings. Do you offer anything else? ND and SM: Not really. We offer absolutely anything to be honest. With technology these days with the way cags are made and wax processes - everything is done in the same room in our case. It is very easy for us to conceptualise any idea for any piece. If you want something like tennis bracelets, or tennis necklaces. If you want a pair of earrings that look like a ten pin bowl, we can do that for you. It all starts with an idea. You can focus around wedding rings and engagement rings because that’s how our business began. That process is always memorable, always fun, and always unique. We make cufflinks for men also, and we’ve actually made them for twelve ushers which were all diamond studded. For the groom, who is a footballer, he asked us to make a football style custom earring.
