WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOURS TO BE A COMMUNITY CLUB ? Absolutely , no matter what age , sex , nationality or level of rugby you play , you can find a team at London Welsh . If you came down on a Sunday morning , every corner of Old Deer Park is full of children , coaches and parents no matter what the weather , Its quite a sight , but if you want parking , you have to be early !
season even though they were limited to what they could do in training . That season saw the first small cohort of 5 U15s and there were regularly 15 girls at training . They played some ready for rugby matches against neighbours London Scottish and even had enough girls to run their own in-house ready for rugby tournament . When they couldn ’ t train together the coaches arranged Beat the Coaches challenges
and Zoom fitness sessions and even had England Scrum Half Claudia McDonald drop in on one to have a chat with the girls . By the end of the season the numbers had grown despite the upheaval of the pandemic .
The 2021 / 22 season is promising to be an absolute corker . There is now a full U15s
cohort of 25 playing in the National Cup competition and local cluster competitions and 7 Under 13s who are playing in local cluster competitions with Twickenham and Grasshoppers .
Regularly numbers at training top 25 and it is brilliant to see the girls develop as rugby players . The
Girls section is now sponsored by Wagamama , which has meant the club could buy two playing kits one for each of the age groups , and also provides player of the month prizes of Wagamama vouchers to spend at the Richmond Branch
WHY SHOULD SOMEONE ENCOURAGE THEIR CHILD , REGARDLESS OF GENDER , TO GET INVOLVED IN RUGBY ? Teamwork , Resilience , Discipline , Respect , Communication skills are all important parts of the game . A child will learn so many life skills playing rugby without even realising it .
London Welsh Girls are always looking to welcome new players , whether they ’ ve played rugby before or are completely new to the sport . Our ethos ? There is a place for everyone on a rugby pitch and we want to support more girls to get involved and play rugby . We ’ re all about having fun and making friendships
