Welcome to issue 90 of Rugby Club Magazine !

My name is Martin Morgan and I am the Media Director at Rugby Club Magazine . It ’ s been an honour and pleasure working with all the clubs in this issue of our magazine and it has been a tough task choosing our Sottish Club of the Year and our English Club of the Year 2021 . This year Kelso Rugby Club have been our winner , recognised and honoured for all their work on and off the pitch with new president Scott Forbes leading the line alongside invaluable committee member Paul Utterson , keeping all the clubs commercial interests balanced while being supported by a band of brothers and sisters behind them with their focused team of volunteers . Rugby memories , excellent community work and a new fresh rugby playing attitude led by coaches Kev Utterson and Bruce McNeil are only a few of the stories you will hear about as you read their feature . A special mention has to go to outstanding player , Scottish international and friend to many at Kelso Rugby Club Gary Callander who sadly left the field of play earlier this month and who was very much part of the clubs great motto “ History is Our Strength .”

Moving on to our English Club of the year , Anselmians Rugby Club , based in the Wirral in North West England who have been a formidable force leading their North Two West league undefeated at the last league standings . Their comprehensive victory over Birkenhead Park , who play in the league above , gave them a vital insight into what to expect if promoted this season ; who would bet against them . The club also have a great history and their ambition to have one of the best facilities in England have been realised over the past two years . Jim McKenzie . Executive Director , led the charge , for the clubs redevelopment ambitions starting 9 years ago and a combination of the right people in the right job has ensured success across
all areas of club and community have been realised . A player coaching team of Degsy Salisbury and Tommy Banks , former Caldy players , alongside team captain Liam Sadler have made them unstoppable . Club and community are thriving and what a great example they are to other clubs .
That ’ s enough from me and I hope you enjoy this edition of our magazine , if you have any comments or would like to be considered for our future publications we would love to hear from you just drop me an email : mbm @ sportip . biz . I haven ’ t mentioned anything about Covid so I won ’ t start here mainly because we all know the score as it is now and hopefully as the days roll by we can all return to the freedom we perhaps have taken for granted in the past . I did hear someone say once ” freedom and happiness are inside jobs .”
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at Rugby Club Magazine !
Yours in Rugby
Martin Morgan
