Bob Hogarth is an ex-player of Kelso Rugby Club , a very talented scrum-half who played back in his clubs hay day alongside the likes of Eric Paxton , John Jeffrey , Gary Callander , Michael Minto , Euan Common , Dougie Robeson and Roger Baird to name a few . Bob is very proud of his association with the club and rightly so , he told Rugby Club Magazines ,
” I can ’ t really say why we had such a large amount of gifted players back in the 80`s but the game was also very different then and the rucking game was at its element . Gary Callander had his pack drilled into such a tight and effective unit and there was a tremendous amount of commitment amongst our players which poured into our 2nd team who were battle hardened and outstanding as well . There was also the influence of having 5 or 6 internationals in our squad which would have a natural impact on lifting the other
game without them even being aware of it .
I try to get down to the club as much as I can and Scott Forbes , Neil Hastie and many others are bringing a real passion to Kelso which is great to experience . It is noticeable that Kev Utterson and Bruce McNeil are working well together and this is apparent by how the team are performing on the park ; they are improving game by game .
With Kelso having a relatively small catchment area to pull from its important to keep the young people involved and I hear Murray Hastie is doing a great job in supporting club development .

Ian Watson is an expresident and player of Kelso Rugby Club , he recently spoke to Rugby Club Magazine about his long and positive association with the club ,
” I had the privilege of playing alongside many great players at Kelso in my day , some who are stilled involved with the club . It ’ s been a difficult time for many during the pandemic and I know Scott and the club have gone beyond the call to be of service to our local community . The community in Kelso is what I ’ m passionate about and to have such a proactive and great club , steeped in such great history from a relatively small catchment area , willing to support those in need makes me feel very proud to be part of Kelso . From the cougars and Quins , who I turned out for as an 18 year old winning a borders junior league trophy 71 / 72 , to our ladies and 1st 1V , who are competing so strongly this season it ’ s wonderful to see the club is in very safe hands for many more generations to come !”
