Howard Cooper is the current President of Old Crossleyans Rugby club and at the time of writing their 1st XV are perched near the top of Yorkshire Division 1 in the Northern Leagues ,

” Its just great to get back onto the field after lockdown ! We were feeling really good and competing well before things started to shut down so we knew we had the base of a good squad .
Gareth Greenwood , our head coach , is a very focused and committed individual and although we don ’ t have the biggest pack we punch and play well above our weight . The addition of some talented players who have competed at a higher level , Joe Buckle our player / coach for example , have made a big difference and really lifted our team spirit . Its not possible to win all our games but what we can do is learn and grow through our challenges and defeats to ensure we are better prepared for the next game .
I`m an ex 2nd row player myself and came from an era where I would play for the school in the morning and club in the afternoon . After I left Old Crossleyans I played at Halifax for 6 seasons before returning as captain for 3 and then moved into coaching before transferring onto the clubs committee as Chairman and here I am now as president .
Our 2nd XV are paramount to our success and having struggled in the past with strength in depth . This season numbers
and attitudes have been fabulous and the guys have been excellent and a vital part of the 1st XV`s stability . Yorkshire rugby teams and leagues are notoriously tough to compete in and some of our players performances have been excellent .
I am very proud of our three girls teams who are doing really well with an amazing 70 plus at training and this will lay the bedrock for a successful future ladies side at our club . Old Crossleyans are a very open and friendly environment and all our members are important to us throughout our local community .
Development of our mini rugby is a constant focus and we are always looking to bridge the inevitable gaps with teams all the way to our seniors to secure our clubs future .
I honestly believe that to have a great team you must firstly have a great club and our efforts will always be
about opening our doors to anyone wishes to be part of this journey and great experience which is Old Crossleyans Rugby Club .
Its always a pleasure to feature in Rugby Club Magazine and I would like to thank Martin and his team
for the great coverage and positive exposure we have received over many years and wish all my friends , players and members at Old Crossleyans Rugby Club the very best of continued success for the remainder of our 2021 / 2022 campaign !”
